Tips for Using Fancy Text

• Instagram bios: Bold and script styles stand out in profile bios without needing any special app permissions.
• Discord usernames and statuses: Double-struck and monospace are popular for a distinctive look in server lists.
• Twitter/X and Threads: Use italic or small caps for quote tweets and replies to add emphasis without using bold markdown (which Twitter doesn't support in the timeline).
• Presentations and docs: Fullwidth and sans-serif bold work well for stylised slide headings when copied into Google Slides or PowerPoint.
• Short phrases work best: Styles are most readable at five words or fewer. Long paragraphs in fancy text can become hard to read.
• Mix and match: Copy the same phrase in two different styles, combine them in a post, or use one style for a heading and another for the body.
• Check accessibility: Screen readers may read each fancy character individually. Keep styled text to short decorative strings, not essential information.

What Is Fancy Text and How Does It Work?

Unicode is a universal character encoding standard that assigns a unique code point to every character used in every writing system in the world. Most people use the basic Latin block — A through Z — but Unicode also contains the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block (U+1D400 to U+1D7FF), which holds styled variants of every Latin letter and digit.

These styled variants were originally added to Unicode for use in mathematical notation — the bold letter 𝐀 and the italic 𝐴 were distinct mathematical symbols long before anyone thought to use them in social media bios. Because they are real Unicode characters, any app that stores and displays Unicode — which is virtually every app since 2010 — will show them correctly without any special fonts or plugins.

This tool maps each letter you type to its corresponding Unicode variant in each style block. The result is text that looks like a different font but is actually just different characters in the same plain-text encoding.
