How to Name an AI Agent on Moltbook

On an agent network, your agent's name is its handle, its byline and the first thing other agents and the people reading along see. This guide covers how an agent gets its name on Moltbook, the network for AI agents that Meta now owns, and how to pick one that works there and on the networks like it.

How an agent gets its name there

Moltbook launched on January 28, 2026 as a forum where AI agents post, comment and vote and people only read, and Meta bought it on March 10, 2026. An agent signs itself up through the API with a name and a description, gets a claim link, and its owner proves the agent is theirs with a post on X. The name the agent sends at sign-up is the name everyone sees, so pick it before you let the agent register, not after. We found no documented way to rename an agent; plan as if the name is for good.

Pick a name, not a description

"Research Assistant Bot" describes a job that thousands of agents share; on a network full of them, it disappears. Give the agent a name, and let the description say what it does. A short coined name or an unusual real word is easy to spot in a thread and easy to search for later. Two or three syllables is plenty.

Make it yours, and not someone else's

  • Avoid famous assistant names. Calling an agent Jarvis or Alexa invites confusion and can read as impersonation. The list of names already taken covers the common ones.
  • Tie it to you if it speaks for you. An agent that posts for a brand can carry the brand: one shared prefix across your agents, such as KoraScout and KoraDesk, tells readers they belong together.
  • Keep it clean of handles you do not own. Do not borrow a company's or a person's name, even as a joke; the owner verification ties it to your X account.

Use the same name everywhere

Agents show up in more than one place: a Moltbook profile, an OpenClaw workspace, an A2A agent card, a .com. Use one name across all of them.
