Shop Name Generator

Names for a boutique, a maker's shop or an everyday store: a word that sets the feel, a shop word that says what it is, and hand-read names like Linen & Lark. Press Check .com or Check .ai to read the public registry for the matching domain, and search the name before you print a sign. Free, no account, everything runs in your browser.

Tick a name to check its .com — up to 5 at once. Nothing is looked up until you press the button.

⭐ Saved favorites stay in your browser — find them all in the Idea Library.

About the buttons next to results: one marked “affiliate”, such as Register a .com, is an affiliate link, so Nameryn may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Make a logo and Open a Shopify store are plain links today. Register a .com appears after a .com check finds no registration, Register a .ai after a .ai check does, and Make a logo and Open a Shopify store after either or a save; none of them changes which names you get. A .com or .ai check reads the public registry once: it is not a guarantee, a business-register search or a trademark search.

What makes a good shop name

A shop name goes on a sign, a bag, a receipt and a social handle, and it gets said out loud by people recommending you. The names here are built for that: short, plain words a customer can spell after hearing them once.

How the shop name engine works

Every batch blends two sources. About half come from a hand-read bank of shop names in three styles (Linen & Lark, Hollow Oak Goods, Maple & Main), each one read and kept as written. The rest are built from a shop word list: a word that sets the feel, such as Violet, Thistle or Harbor, followed by a shop word, such as Atelier, Makers or Mercantile. The feel words are flowers, birds, places and moods, never a material, so a name reads as a shop and not as a seller of silk or timber. Each style has its own words; Any uses every feel word with the shop words that fit them all.

Every word on the list was read against every shop word it can meet, one feel word appears at most twice in a batch, so does each shop word, and well-known store names, such as Pottery Barn or Urban Outfitters, are screened out, along with the same safety and known-brand screens as Nameryn's business names.

Shop names — frequently asked questions

What makes a good shop name?

One you can say once and a customer can spell, that hints at the feel of the shop without locking it to one product, and that nobody near you or online already trades under. Two short words, or two words joined by an ampersand, are the most common shape for a reason: they are easy to put on a sign and a bag.

How do I check if a shop name is taken?

Search the exact name on Google, on the marketplaces you will sell on and on the social platforms you will use, check the .com, look up your state or country business register, and run a trademark search. Each result here has a .com and a .ai check one press away.

Should my shop name say what I sell?

Only loosely. A name that names one product, such as candles, gets in the way when you add soap. A word that sets the feel, plus a shop word like Goods, Supply or Studio, leaves room to grow, and the tagline or the storefront can say what you sell today.

Can I use a generated name for my store?

Yes, the names are free to use. They are built from plain words, so another shop may already use one somewhere; well-known store names are screened out, but search the name and your business register before you print anything.

Are the names saved anywhere?

No. Everything runs in your browser. Names you favorite are stored locally on this device only, and a check or a next-step button sends a name out only when you press it.

Preliminary availability evidence: The optional .com and .ai lookups report only whether the exact domain had a public registry record at the displayed time. “No registration found” is not a registration guarantee, a business-register search, a trademark search, a social-handle check or legal clearance.
