Wake Word Checker
Type the name you want to call an assistant, an agent or a robot, tick the assistants already in your house, and see whether it can be said to a device: syllables, opening sound, everyday words, first names, and clashes with the wake words around it. Free, and nothing leaves your browser.
What the Checker Looks At
- Syllables. Two or three. One is easy to miss; four or more is slow to say every day.
- The opening sound. A hard first sound (B, D, G, J, K, P, T, V or Z) stands out from a room; a vowel or a soft sound blurs into the word before it. These are the openings the AI agent name generator uses for wake words.
- Everyday words and first names. A word from the 10,000 most common in English, or a common first name, will be said near the device. Amazon calls the result a false wake, and gives the name Alex as an example.
- The wake words in your house. The same opening or the same ending as another wake word (Siria and Siri, Kovati and Copilot) lets one device answer for the other.
- Fixed words. Alexa's launch words (open, ask, tell and the rest) and the wake phrases of robot pets such as EMO and Loona.

FAQ
What makes a good wake word?
Two or three syllables, a hard opening sound such as K, T, B or Z, and a word nobody says in everyday conversation. It should also sound unlike every other wake word in the house, at the start and at the end, so one device does not answer for another.
Can I change Alexa's wake word to any name?
No. Amazon lets you pick from its own list: Alexa, Amazon, Computer, Echo or Ziggy. A name of your own works where the assistant lets you choose one, such as OpenClaw or a robot that takes a name, or as the name you call an assistant in conversation.
Why does my device wake up when nobody called it?
Amazon calls it a false wake: a device can take another word or sound for its wake word, such as the name Alex, or someone saying Alexa on the radio. Everyday words, common first names and names that sound like another wake word cause most of them.
How many syllables should a wake word have?
Two or three. One syllable is easy to miss and turns up inside other words, and four or more is slow to say many times a day.
Is the name I type sent anywhere?
No. The check runs in your browser against lists that load with the page. Nothing you type leaves your device.
