Before you name an assistant, a company agent or a robot, rule out the names people already say to one. Sharing a name with a known assistant confuses people about what yours can do, invites trademark trouble and, in a home with several devices, can wake the wrong one. Why a taken name is a problem

  • Expectations. Someone who hears "Alexa" or "Siri" expects that product's abilities, and judges yours against it.
  • Wake words. Two devices in one room that answer to the same or a similar name both wake up.
